My Collection of Children's Books

Once in a Blue Moon
Written and Illustrated by: Danielle Daniel
This children's book is a collection of short poems inspired by the rare full moon known as a “blue moon”. The poems in the book celebrate the simple pleasures and gifts that surrounds us in nature. This book can introduce students to reading and writing poetry. Although the poems do not illustrate any apparent rhyming pattern, each poem contains a pair of ' ing ' ending words (“running” and “blinking”, “hiking” and “hiding”, “floating” and “hooting”, etc.). Teachers can ask students to identify each pair of ' ing ' ending words and look at them more closely in a word study mini lesson or activity. Moreover, most of the ' ing ' ending words are tier 2 vocabularies, which suggests that this book can encourage vocabulary building.
